A sweet, giggling three-year-old jumped on top of me this morning as the sun was just starting to light up the sky. “Mommy, the birds are awake. It’s mornin’!” We did some snuggling until she got quite impatient and started demanding to get dressed.
It wasn’t long before a sweet, puffy-eyed five-year-old joined us and she was kind enough to take her little sister by the hand and help her find the perfect dress to wear on a typical Monday morning.
While they were busy with that, I got dressed, made my bed, took a small pile of clothes to the laundry room and started the washer.
I opened all the blinds and windows upstairs to let in the fresh, cool air.
I emptied the girls’ hamper and dumped it in the washer too. I’ve got my laundry basket and clothes pins ready because it’s a great drying day.
I came downstairs, set up my computer, started the coffee, poured Special K (with 5 Grains) into three bowls and topped them with vanilla soy milk.
The girls got dressed, fed their baby dolls and made their way to the table.
I wrote out my to-do list for the day and am eating my cereal while I write this post – the first to-do on my list everyday.
After I publish this post, I’ll wash the dishes and then I’ll tackle my first writing project of the day (I have 10 big ones to work on today). I’ll hang out the laundry, will take two 20-minute play breaks with the girls and plan to somehow squeeze in a workout today.
At some point, I’ll take my computer outside and work from the deck so the girls get some fresh air and a chance to
play with their new sandbox toys. Oh shoot. I need to buy more sand.
I have all the ingredients I need to make a small pot of chili for supper and I’ll bake biscuits to go with it.
While I cook supper, I’ll take inventory of the fridge and the cupboards to help me make up a grocery list because I need to go shopping this evening because we have nothing in the house besides a grapefruit, two zucchini and a box of salt.
When my husband gets home, he’ll be dirty and sweaty and tired after a hard day at work. The girls will hear him come in and will tackle him as soon as his foot enters the house. They’ll knock him down with hugs and kisses. He’ll tell me it smells good in here and he’ll give me a kiss.
We’ll all sit down at the table to have supper together and after the dishes are cleaned up we will go outside and play as a unit. Sometimes we go to the park, sometimes we go to the beach, sometimes we go for a walk and sometimes we play frisbee in the backyard.
When we get home, everyone will get cleaned up and into jammies, fresh off the clothesline. Teeth will be brushed, stories will be read, foreheads will be kissed and lullabies will be sung.
This is my life. It sounds boring and mundane to many, probably like bliss to others. All I know is that I love it so much, it’s impossible to articulate.

That sounds lovely! Your girls are so lucky
You articulated it very well. Many will be envious.
I’m envious.. what a wonderful life of peace, contentment, and love.
