Saturday was a jam-packed day of excitement. Actually, there was no jam involved, but it was a very fun day for the kids. The Morell River Run Festival was going on and the park where the majority of events were taking place is approximately a three-minute walk from our house.
First we all walked over to the Farmer’s (and Flea) Market and ended up with armfuls of fresh produce; broccoli, strawberries, salad greens, beets, carrots and romaine lettuce. I also got some local dried oregano and a beautiful organic chicken. It was a gorgeous haul and I wish they’d do the same thing every weekend, not just for festivals!
After we brought our loot home, we headed to the library for crafts. The girls got to make pirate hats and Jason and I got a chance to chat with some of Casey’s friends’ parents.
Then it was time for lunch so we came home, had some salad and a slice or two of pizza before heading to the Fire Hall for a little tour. After that it was fun and games at the park where bouncy houses kept the girls occupied for hours. Casey was shaking with excitement squealing, “Mommy, all my friends are here!” She knew more people than I did, that’s for sure, and she was having the time of her life.
After a quick supper, it was time for the children’s entertainer to take the stage and the kids loved him. I saw a side of Casey I never saw before as she shot her arm up in the air and shouted out answers to questions he asked.
When I was 5 I didn’t have that kind of self-confidence and I truly hope she never loses that.
After their bath, the girls fell asleep as soon as they hit their pillows.
Yesterday it was just too hot to stick around home so we headed to my parents’ place which I refer to as “The Beach House.” It’s always at least five degrees cooler there than it is anywhere else and there’s always a breeze coming off the water. The girls and I had fun at the beach where I got to have a little swim while they played on the shore with their nanny.
What a fun weekend. It makes it easier to get down to work on Monday morning when you can take peace in knowing that you showed your kids a great time on the days you took off.
Now here’s hoping for a great week. Oh and a big huge thank you to any organizers of the festival who happen to read this. It was a great time for everyone!
